KIMONO

Early Meiji period, when Maple club flourished, kimono was still a daily wear.
The 'MARU-OBI' used as the most prestigious Obi (traditionally designed belt for kimono) at the time was crafted by artisans with weaving and embroidery 100 - 150 years ago (Meiji - Taisho era).
This KIMONO Reborn Art is the project of decorative art of today. Miss. SHITO HISAYO: The global kimono designer enhances the MARU-OBI with unparalleled sensibility, adding unique designs to it.
It's the first public unveiling of KIMONO Reborn Art for this time so, please adorn yourself with this special kimono and enjoy traditional style in the culture of Japan.
All of this KIMONO Reborn Art features exclusively "haute couture" pieces and, you'll be able to have a memorial experience with all of it. Created by SHITO HISAYO the globally renowned KIMONO designer, these works are now showcasing her own brand "AAAPARE".
She exactly breathes new life into the "MARU-OBI" from a century ago (the Meiji to Taisho era) with unparalleled sensibility, creating meticulously crafted artistic pieces one by one. All pieces are given a serial number, making them unique pieces that can only exist one of a kind in the world. She adds designs based on her sensibilities to the weaving and embroidery of artisans, bringing them back to life as a new decorative art. Goldwork and natural stones created by decorative craftsmen who work on shrines, temples, and national treasure-class buildings decorate the MARU-OBI giving a sense of history.
About SHITO HISAYO
Artist / Kimono Designer
Born in Asakusa, Tokyo
She has been learning Japanese dance since she was 3 years old and is today active as the master of Natori 'AOYAGI MITSUSUKE'. She is also proficient in the calligraphy of 'BAIHAN' and ikebana (flower arrangement) of 'KAORI', and, became familiar with kimonos from an early age. Her unique method of matching fabrics, colors, and patterns can be truly called 'a reversal of ideas'. She has perfected a concept for making kimonos that is completely different from conventional methods. She is the greatest leading kimono designer in the 'WASO KAI' (Japanese fashion Field). This year marks the 26th anniversary of the 'You Are the Star Fashion Show' aiming to spread the popularity of the kimono as a symbol of Japanese culture and, she also contributes greatly to Japanese art culture.
SHITO HISAYO's "MARU-OBI" Collection.
The "MARU-OBI" used in KIMONO Reborn Art was born in the middle of the Edo period and was placed as the most formal obi until before the war. After the war, as lifestyles changed and casual fashion became mainstream, and today obi are only used for special occasions such as kabuki. The number of craftsmen who can create delicate and gorgeous embroidery has declined, and the reality is that high-quality "maru obi" cannot be produced in recent years.
Miss. SHITO has successfully collected over 500 of these precious and rare "MARU-OBI" from all over Japan over several years.

"We must not lose the craftsmanship that is a symbol of precious Japanese culture."
"I wanna reborn and deliver this wonderful work to the world."

The origin of the brand "AAAPARE" stems from her strong passionate ideas.

KESHIKI

Before Tokyo Tower was build, there was a high-class restaurant called "Maple Clu" (Koyo Kan), and it was a place of exchange connecting Japan and the world.
The KESHIKI (scenery), building, interior, maid’s KIMONO and foods were so magnificent that every foreign dignitaries wanted to visit.
People could enjoy the autumn leaves of various maple trees transplanted from Edo Castle and scenery of the Tokyo Shiba district in the view from the Maple Club.
Please experience the Ukiyo-e style scenery of that time reborn in Mixed Reality.

KOYO-KAN
In this Mixed Reality project, you can experience the Maple Club, a members-only restaurant limited to 300 people, which was founded in 1881 by Naoyoshi Nobeji as a stage for international exchange.
The Tokyo Tower currently stands on a mountain called Mt. Momiji because the 2nd Tokugawa shogun, TOKUGAWA Hidetada, separated the roots of many maple trees from Mt. Kaede within Edo Castle and transplanted them there.
And since the hall was surrounded by trees over hundreds of years old, the leaves of the trees turned red in the fall, creating an extremely beautiful landscape turned deep red.
The interior was decorated with maple leaf patterns everywhere, and the women working there were also dressed in kimonos decorated with autumn leaves.
Because it is said that the solemn appearance of the service was so beautiful, many officers came to Japan, wishing "Whenever they come to Japan, they definitely want to go to the Maple Club and enjoy an evening."
Mitsuko Coudenhove was a maid at the Maple Club. She is the mother of Count Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi, who laid the foundations of the European Union. Also, Eiichi Shibusawa, who is called the father of Japanese capitalism, visited Maple Club 138 times.

Although the building was burnt down in the Tokyo air raids in 1945, Momijidani (Vally of Maples) still remains in front of Tokyo Tower, retaining a vestige of its time.
"Shiba Park Koyokan Upper Room (Japanese Restaurant)" , 1881 ,Hiroshige UTAGAWA (3rd gen.).

This is an ukiyo-e depicting the Maple Club in Shiba. Ukiyo-e is in contrast to Chinese paintings, which emphasize white space. Ukiyo-e paintings are filled with depictions and incorporate many vivid colors. The situation at that time is beautifully depicted such as the autumn leaves spreading outside, the maid's charming kimono, etc.
